E-cigarettes are ‘gateway’ to tobacco smoking, study finds

People who have used e-cigarettes are more susceptible to becoming tobacco smokers within a short time, according to a study by psychologists at Curtin University in Western Australia.

Using data from an online survey, the study found that three in five young Australian adults who were using e-cigarettes, or vaping, were likely to take up tobacco smoking in the next six months.

The findings are published in the International Journal of Drug Policy.
