Australian scientists have led the development of UN guidelines to help China design and build more sustainable low-carbon cities and rural communities.
The UN guide provides technical advice on aspects that include reducing carbon emissions, water recycling, waste management, designing city vegetation plans and assessing the impacts of urban microclimates.
The lead author is Deo Prasad, chief executive of the Sydney-based Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living and professor of built environment at the University of New South Wales.
