Curtin to host $135m R&D centre for battery technologies

A national research centre to develop battery production technologies and expand Australia’s rare-minerals mining industries is to be based at Curtin University in Western Australia.

The Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre is funded by a $25-million federal grant and $110m from around 60 research partners. These include universities, government agencies and manufacturing and mining industries.

Karen Andrews, federal industry, science and technology minister, announced the funding at the university’s Perth campus on 10 April.
