Government orders ACIAR efficiency review

The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) will be reviewed for the first time since 1998, the federal government has said.

The external review will evaluate ACIAR’s effectiveness in contributing to global food security and poverty alleviation, foreign minister Bob Carr said on 5 October.

ACIAR forms part of Australia’s aid programme and has an annual appropriation of approximately AU$100 million in 2012-13.

Part of the review will focus on how efficiently ACIAR manages research programmes and builds capacity, including risk management, performance oversight, and transparency.
