Brian Yates, a professor of chemistry at the University of Tasmania, has been appointed executive director of the Australian Research Council (ARC).
A former member of the ARC College, Yates will advise the council on its strategic research direction. He will start his five-year tenure in January 2013, the ARC said on 26 September.
