Canadian takes CSIRO’s top oceans research job

Ken Lee, one of Canada’s leading oceanographers and oil spill remediation experts, has been put in charge of energy exploration research at Australia’s main federal science agency.

Lee will be based in Perth, Western Australia and lead a team of more than 200 scientists as director of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s ocean research programme, Wealth from Oceans.

His move to Australia follows budget cuts and job losses at Canada’s government ocean research laboratories in 2012.
