Queensland beef centre dropped by CSIRO

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is to pull out of beef research in central Queensland, ABC reports.

CSIRO will not renew its lease on Belmont Research Station outside Rockhampton when it expires next month, according to ABC’s rural department.

“It’s certainly disappointing to see research leaving central Queensland, especially considering it’s a major livestock area,” said Ian Burnett, president of agricultural lobby group Agforce, which owns the building.

Agforce says it wants research to continue at the facility and is seeking interested parties to carry out projects there.
