Manufacturing research hit hard in CSIRO job cuts

Australia’s top science agency has announced it will lose 75 research jobs in advanced manufacturing, agriculture and digital productivity.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation has told staff the redundancies are a result of federal budget cuts and declining industry investment in research.

The CSIRO’s funding was cut by $115 million in the Abbott government’s May federal budget, forcing it to close or scale back research programmes across Australia.
