Rural research takes savage hit in RIRDC budget

One of Australia’s biggest rural research funders has slashed support for research on developing new crops, reducing the number of grants by almost half in its latest annual budget

The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation was forced to review its research priorities, following an $11 million drop in the 2014 federal budget.

The federal research agency has published its 2015-16 research budget, and cut the number of projects in its New and Developing Plant Industries programme from 62 to 35
