RIRDC wants female leaders in rice industry

One of Australia’s biggest rural research funding agencies wants to see more women taking on business and science leadership roles in the country’s rice industry.

The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation is developing a “Women in Rice” network to encourage women to take a more active role in shaping decisions that affect an industry worth more than $800 million annually.

Announcing the initiative, RIRDC rice extension officer Leah Garnett said many rice industry events “remain male dominated”, despite the valuable contributions made by women involved in rice farming, rural business planning, marketing and research.
