Detecting problem gambling risks in online betting

Central Queensland University in Rockhampton has received a $300,000 grant from the federal and Victorian governments to analyse online gambling data and identify harmful betting patterns.

Announcing the funding on 14 July, federal human services minister Alan Tudge said the study will be the first of its kind in Australia.

He said that CQU will use sports betting data to develop “a list of behavioural indicators and a predictive algorithm” that can identify betting patterns that are linked to problem gambling.
