Frydenberg plans ‘online atlas’ of tidal energy

The University of Tasmania will lead a $6 million national research project to map tidal energy sites and their potential to contribute to Australia’s electricity supply networks.

Announcing details on 13 July, energy minister Josh Frydenberg said the three-year project will be based at the Australian Maritime College at UTAS, and will be funded by the federal government through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

It will also involve scientists from the University of Queensland and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
