Federal education minister Simon Birmingham has officially launched a $67 million marine research centre at the University of Western Australia in Perth.
The Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre will be the biggest marine research facility of its kind in Australia, and will support the work of more than 300 marine scientists.
It will work with two of Australia’s top federal science agencies, the Australian Institute of Marine Science in Townsville and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
