A wireless system that uses decentralised fog computing to provide visitor information for Victoria’s remote national parks is being developed by scientists at Deakin University in Geelong.
Yong Xiang and Longxiang Gao from Deakin’s school of information are collaborating with state government conservation agency, Parks Victoria, on a 12-month pilot study to improve mobile phone and tablet access to parks information.
Announcing details, Xiang said that visitors wanted to learn about flora, fauna and geographic features, but often found they were unable to use their mobile phones or other devices to consult parks websites and apps.
