Second round of funding for UNSW ageing research centre

The University of New South Wales in Sydney has received a $27.2-million federal grant to fund a seven-year research programme that will explore the social and financial challenges facing Australia’s ageing population.

The Australian Research Council grant has provided a second round of funding for the university’s Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research, which was launched in 2011. It was the first social science research centre to receive Centre of Excellence funding from the federal agency.

The funding for the UNSW centre was announced jointly by Ken Wyatt, federal minister for senior Australians and aged care, and Dan Tehan, federal education minister.
