Government takes bigger role in university defence research

Australia’s federal government is to set up a national R&D discussion group to expand and promote research projects relevant to defence science and anti-terrorism technologies.

The National Security Science and Technology Research Forum will work with research institutes, universities and defence industries to broker funding and organise research conferences and workshops.

The Defence Science and Technology Group, meanwhile—part of the Department of Defence—will develop and manage research programmes together with industry, government research institutes and universities.
