Universities slow to issue waiver for harassment inquiry

Only three Australian universities have so far agreed to allow staff who have signed non-disclosure agreements to make confidential submissions to a national inquiry into workplace sexual harassment.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is conducting the inquiry following a 2018 survey that found reporting of workplace sexual harassment “continues to be low”.

According to the survey, only 17 per cent of people who experienced sexual harassment at work in the past five years made a formal report or complaint about the harassment.
