The Australian government will introduce a “large-scale” industry intern programme as part of national reforms to improve university research training, a federal policy director says.
Department of Education research funding and policy manager, Harold Lomas told a meeting in Canberra that the work placement programme is among priority reforms currently being discussed.
Speaking to Cooperative Research Centre senior executives, Lomas said that the proposed “national PhD internship programme” will increase engagement with industry and help researchers gain practical experience.
