The Australian Research Council has announced grants worth $1.2 million for two industry-led projects in Victoria and Western Australia.
University of Sydney ecologist Rick Shine has received $860,000 to work on feral cane toads with research partners that include the WA Department of Parks and Wildlife, Kimberley Land Council and Dunkeld Pastoral company cattle stations.
Cane toads were introduced to Queensland in 1935 to control beetles in the state’s cane fields, and have become one of Australia’s most ecologically damaging pests.
