Food industry want cuts to research red tape

A national food industry organisation has warned that a “disconnect” between research managers and business is undermining Australia’s export opportunities.

Food Innovation Australia Ltd lists the bureaucracy involved in writing and assessing grant applications among a number of “unnecessary or burdensome” processes that are frustrating industry-led research.

Other restrictions include the administrative paperwork involved in working with university researchers and difficulty and delays in gaining permission to use specialist equipment at universities.
