Cultural and creative activities contributed more than $111 billion to Australia’s economy in 2016-17, with design, fashion and media the top three areas of growth, a federal analysis has shown.
A working paper published by the Bureau of Communications and Arts Research estimates that this equates to 6.4 per cent of GDP.
The paper was commissioned by the federal Department of Communications and the Arts to assess the economic worth of creative activities that relate to the arts, media, heritage, design, fashion and digital technology.
