Sydney study questions industry influence on research projects

Corporate interests can divert research away from contentious issues such as nutrition, obesity and sugary drinks that are critical to public health, a University of Sydney study has said.

Industry-funded research frequently gives priority to developing products, processes and services that could increase company income and market profile, according to the study.

Industry sponsorship can also influence the type of research conducted by universities and government research agencies, it found.
