Rural industries must be wary of “extreme hype” surrounding research and investment in digital technologies for farming and food processing, according to Australia’s leading agricultural policy think tank.
The Sydney-based Australian Farm Institute warns that there is a global “frenzy of activity trying to cash in on the boom that is agtech”.
In a report from the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in San Francisco, AFI research manager Richard Heath said the event showed that “the interest, activity and investment in technology for food and agriculture is astounding”.
