Carbon calculator shows high worth of coastal mangrove forests

An online app that can calculate the amount of carbon stored in coastal mangroves has been developed by researchers at Griffith University in Queensland.

The carbon calculator can also be used by government agencies and local wetlands managers to determine carbon emissions that would result from mangroves being cleared for housing or roads.

The Mangrove Carbon Emission Simulator was designed by Fernanda Adame, Chris Brown and Rod Connolly from the university’s Australian Rivers Institute at its Brisbane campus.
