Service industries ‘to be hardest hit’ by digital tech advances

Australia’s service industries will face bigger challenges than manufacturing in responding to the rise and future dominance of artificial intelligence, a leading business academic has said.

Andrew Beer, dean of research and innovation at the University of South Australia, says advances in data processing and machine learning will change the future of work for service industries such as banking, insurance and government data management.

“These new technologies and new approaches to business are already having a big impact on the services sector, and that is only going to increase,” he said in a university statement.
