Robot research vessel visits Fremantle

The Lady Amber, a state-of-the-art oceanographic science vessel that deploys research robots in the Indian Ocean to collect climate data, visited Western Australia on 13 January.

John Day, the minister for science and innovation, said its research made an important contribution to meteorology and oceanography around the world.

He said the vessel had deployed 55 Argo robot floats in the Indian Ocean.

The Argo project is funded by the state government through a five-year, AU$5 million grant and has also received support through Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), for which the state government has provided $6m in funding.
