Call for action on ‘harrowing’ abuse of elderly

A federal report has warned that a coordinated national research effort is urgently needed to deal with an alarmingly high rate of physical, emotional and financial abuse of older Australians.

The Australian Law Reform Commission report was commissioned by federal attorney general George Brandis and aged care minister Ken Wyatt.

It has made 43 recommendations to change federal and state laws to provide better protection for elderly people.
