Defence upgrade to create satellite research jobs

The federal government will spend $500 million on improving access to commercial satellite surveillance systems for Australia’s defence forces.

The funding was announced in Canberra on 18 June by defence minister Marise Payne and defence industry minister Christopher Pyne.

In a joint statement, they said the move will “enhance Australia’s geospatial-intelligence capabilities” by allowing Defence to gain real-time access to high quality satellite data.
