Paris climate treaty ‘still powerful’ without US

Federal environment minister Josh Frydenberg says Australia remains committed to the Paris climate agreement and will work to meet the “reasonable and achievable” goals that it sets.

Speaking to media in Canberra on 2 June, Frydenberg described US president Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the global emissions reduction agreement as “regrettable”.

Trump has announced that the US is walking away from the 2015 agreement because it is “less about climate and more about other countries gaining an advantage over the United States”.
