Country students to ‘get a fairer go’ at university education

Australia’s education minister Dan Tehan has announced a $135-million assistance package to help rural students overcome barriers to gaining a university education.

The package includes $34m to more than double the number of tertiary scholarships available for rural students, and $92.5m to help five regional universities expand rural enrolments over the next four years.

An additional $7.5m has been allocated to fund 22 regional study facilities in remote areas of Australia, and Tehan has also pledged to develop a National Regional, Rural and Remote Higher Education Strategy to guide policy.
