Pyne resignation adds to government’s election woes

Federal defence minister Christopher Pyne has resigned from parliament after 26 years as a South Australian MP and will not contest the federal election in May.

Announcing his resignation in Adelaide on 2 March, Pyne said that after quitting politics he intended to “go into the private sector and try and create a business”.

“It’s nice to leave when people are asking me to stay rather than when people are asking me to go,” he told reporters.
