Scientists call for government action on land clearing laws

More than 350 of Australia’s leading environmental scientists have signed a letter calling for federal and state governments to pass tougher laws to control land clearing for urban developments and agricultural expansion.

The online declaration suggests that a recent increase in bushfires and drought can be linked to increased clearing rates of forests and woodlands across the country.

Published by the Ecological Society of Australia, it has been signed by more than 240 academics from universities in all states and territories.
