CSIRO calls for detailed science policies ahead of federal election

The next federal government must commit to an annual funding increase for Australia’s top science agency of at least 5 per cent over the next decade to rebuild research capabilities, the agency’s staff union has said.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Staff Association has contacted the major political parties to ask them to publish detailed national science policies before the 2019 federal election.

Sam Popovski, the association’s secretary, said the union had written to federal science and industry minister Karen Andrews, Labor’s shadow science minister Kim Carr and Australian Greens science spokesman Adam Bandt.
