‘Don’t get mad, get elected,’ retiring MP tells young people

Australian politics needs more young MPs to lead and influence debate on issues such as higher education and climate change, independent rural politician Cathy McGowan has told federal parliament.

McGowan urged young people across Australia to consider standing for public office and to engage with politics at all levels to drive change.

“Don’t get mad—get elected,” McGowan said in her farewell speech to the lower house on 4 April.
