Shadow minister for Indigenous Australians blasts government’s ‘dismal’ record on access

Australia has failed to meet targets to improve access to education for Indigenous children, with school attendance rates declining by 2 percentage points over the past five years, a government report has said.

The Closing the Gap annual report found that some progress had been made to increase early childhood education enrolments and to encourage more Indigenous students to complete their secondary education in order to find work or enrol at tertiary institutions.
