Australia announces budget boost for climate research

Federal government to provide funds for carbon reduction, marine research and conservation

Australia’s federal budget in May is to include just over a billion dollars for research into carbon-reducing technology and other climate-related projects, and A$100 million for research and conservation in marine environments, the government has announced.

Of the carbon reduction R&D money, A$275m will help develop four additional hydrogen technology hubs, while A$263m will be spent on carbon capture and use projects. Australia already has 13 hydrogen research hubs around the country.
