Federal election on 21 May unlikely to bring a revolution in higher education

The final week of Australia’s election campaign has seen new promises for industry and individual research projects, but there has been little news for wider higher education and research policy.

On 17 May, the Labor Party, the main opposition to the ruling Liberal-National coalition, announced it would create a A$1.5 billion Medical Manufacturing Fund, following its announcement on 15 May of a planned A$1bn fund for advanced manufacturing and research commercialisation. The funds are part of Labor’s proposed A$15bn National Reconstruction Fund.
