International students in areas of “verified skill shortages” will be able to stay for longer
Some international research students are to get up to six years of post-study work rights in Australia—an increase of two years—thanks to a shake-up of student visa arrangements.
The change, announced by education minister Jason Clare and home affairs minister Clare O’Neil on 2 September, is an attempt to “strengthen the pipeline of skilled labour” in areas of “verified skill shortages”, a joint statement said.
