Australian government R&D spending rises slightly

Minister points to “green shoots” of recovery but science groups call for more

A slight rise in Australian government spending on research is “promising” but not enough to reverse a “long downward trend” in funding, science groups have said.

A budget analysis released by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources on 15 February showed that research and development spending by the government will rise by 2.7 per cent in 2023-24 to A$12.6 billion.
