Australian Greens criticise what they call Aukus-driven restrictions as two defence bills are passed

Restrictions on former Australian Defence Force personnel sharing knowledge with foreign nations are part of a “racist” move towards limiting international collaboration, the Australian Greens have alleged.

Speaking on the Defence Amendment (Safeguarding Australia’s Military Secrets) bill 2024 in the Senate on 25 March, Greens education spokesperson Mehreen Faruqi said the bill and the related Defence Trade Controls Amendment legislation were driven by the Aukus military agreement between Australia, the UK and the US.
