Knowledge Gateway initiative goes ‘truly national’

The Group of Eight, a coalition of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities, wants all the country’s universities to be part of its ‘Australia’s Knowledge Gateway’ initiative, which aims to boost visibility of the country’s research institutions.

The keyword-powered searchable database links users directly to researcher expertise. Led by Group of Eight institutions, it was launched last year in an effort to make know-how in Australian universities more accessible to the wider community.

Now the aim is to ensure that it becomes “a truly national initiative”, the Group said in its July newsletter. The University of South Australia has signed on to be part of the initiative and many others have expressed their interest, the announcement said.

In June, it was announced that academics from 12 universities, including four from the Group of Eight, are taking part in a trial to measure the wider benefits of taxpayer-funded research in Australia.
