Rural universities miss out on ARC grants

Australia’s regional universities had a disappointingly low success rate in the latest round of Australian Research Council grants.

Four regional universities received only13 research grants between them, with a total worth of around $10 million. This amounts to less than 2 per cent of the $522m allocated by the ARC for 1177 projects.

The grants were announced by federal education minister Christopher Pyne on 8 November, and include Future Fellowships, Discovery and Linkage awards.
