QUT centre to track influence of social media

Australia’s first research centre dedicated to exploring the social strengths and challenges of digital media has been launched at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

The QUT Digital Media Research Centre will look at how digital technologies are changing the way people access and use information, including the role of social media in influencing politics.

At its opening on 22 April, director Jean Burgess said the centre would aim to help people understand the impact of digital technologies in areas such as the creative arts, education, journalism, business and law.
