Music most ‘male-dominated’ Australian art

Women in the Australian music industry face “systemic barriers” that prevent them gaining access to the same opportunities as men, according to University of Sydney research.

The study says that women represent around 30 per cent of professional musicians and 27 per cent of composers.

It says these two occupations are the most overwhelmingly “masculinised” and male-dominated of all creative arts professions in Australia.
