Study warns against self-diagnosis of gluten allergies

Gluten-free diets can increase health risks such as heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity, according to medical scientists at the University of Newcastle in regional New South Wales.

A review led by Michael Potter from the Hunter Medical Research Institute has found many people are confusing adverse reactions to wheat products with coeliac disease.

The study is published online in the Medical Journal of Australia.
