Universities spend more on fundraising to win over donors

Australian and New Zealand universities are spending more on targeted fundraising campaigns to attract donations, gifts-in-kind and bequests, according to a three-year study.

Financial data from 25 universities that took part in the survey revealed a 15 per cent increase in funds spent on alumni relations programmes such as magazines and newsletters in 2016. Investment in university fundraising campaigns also increased by 11 per cent.

The total expenditure on fundraising campaigns in 2016 was around $77 million, and $44m was spent on alumni programmes.
