Federal review to investigate free speech at Australia’s universities

The Morrison government has appointed former High Court chief justice Robert French to head an inquiry into freedom of speech at Australian university campuses.

French, who is chancellor of the University of Western Australia in Perth, will review existing regulations governing free speech at universities, including codes of conduct, enterprise agreements and policy statements.

The appointment was announced on 14 November by federal education minister Dan Tehan.
