Next generation of nursing academics ‘needed urgently’

Review recommends more joint appointments with time split between teaching and providing health services

Australia’s universities must do more to increase the number of nursing academics and expand PhD opportunities for students from minority groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, a federal health report has said.

It says creating the next generation of nursing academics is “an urgent task” as many who are presently employed by universities are approaching retirement.
