Charles Sturt University in regional New South Wales is planning to add wildlife rescue management during natural disasters, such as bushfires and floods, to its veterinary science course.

The move follows estimates that more than one billion native animals may have been killed by the recent bushfires that burned across more than 18 million hectares.
