Whackademia author lashes out at university ‘marketing armies’

The chasm between institutions’ marketing claims and reality couldn’t be wider, says social scientist

Australia’s universities are “massively overreliant” on international students for their income and are overinvesting in marketing to attract enrolments, according to a Southern Cross University social sciences academic.

Richard Hil, an adjunct professor at the university’s Lismore campus in northern New South Wales, suggests there will be “an epic implosion when this revenue stream dries up”.
